Pneumonia Appropriate Care Measure

Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs caused by a viral or bacterial infection. This infection can fill the lungs with mucus and lower the oxygen level in the blood. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing, chills, a "wet" cough, and chest pain.

The eight pneumonia measures are:

PN-1	Oygenation Assessment
PN-2	Pneumococcal Vaccination
PN-3a	Blood Culture within 24 hours of Arrival
PN-3b	Blood Culture Before Antibiotic (Emergency Department)
PN-4	Adult Smoking Cessation Advice/Counseling
PN-5b	Initial Antibiotic Given Within 4 Hours of Arrival
PN-6	Given the Most Appropriate Initial Antibiotics
PN-7	Influenza (Flu) Vaccination
