Med-Camp 2011is held at Baptist Regional Medical Center.

Baptist Regional Medical Center just hosted its 5th Med-Camp over the past 3 years. Each year information is sent out to high school counselors to invite students that are interested in the medical field. High school juniors and seniors come from a variety of areas to spend a week on campus.

The first goal of the camp is to help students see the medical field in a live environment versus Hollywood style. In each camp students visit with two local colleges to see the campus, interact with students and work in the lab. Union College is a private institute that offers undergraduate requirements towards careers in the medical fields and recently started R.N. to BSN program for nursing. The second campus the students visited was the University of the Cumberlands, which offers undergraduate studies toward multiple careers in the medical field including the Physician Assistance program.

During the week, students interact with staff from Nursery, Labor and Delivery, Radiology, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Laboratory and Respiratory.  During this time students are paired with a staff member and have time to observe and ask questions. They are able to experience a week in the medical field through different departments. In addition, students watch various surgeries and interact with the surgeons.
