Baptist Regional reaps rewards of ISO Certification
The Baptist Regional Pharmacy has recognized the benefits of the ISO management system and this year the Pharmacy was recognized by DNV, the hospital’s ISO/NIAHO accreditation team.
The pharmacy embraced the ISO tag line- Say What You do, Do What You Say, and Prove It. Policies were reworked to clearly define department and staff responsibilities. More than 250 processes or procedures were mapped to training modules and training modules to each job description. Electronic control charts guide staff and monitor processes throughout the day, week, and month. Monthly reports are generated and collated into a review of all functions from distribution to automation, sterile compounding, purchasing, informatics and clinical pharmacy activities.
The pharmacy mission is to provide safe, cost effective care. ISO management principles keep the pharmacy focused on their mission by providing measures of performance and identifying opportunities to further improve operations. ISO provides pharmacy with the structure to “Say What They Do”, the competency and monitoring needed to ensure they, “Do What They Say”, and the outcomes data to “Prove It”.
