Baptist East NICU to add four Level II bassinets

Growing pains on Baptist East’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) have led to a much needed expansion.

After years of operating at – and sometimes past – the limits of licensed beds, the NICU has received the green light for increased capacity. This includes the addition of four neonatal level II bassinets to the existing intensive care nursery for a total of eight bassinets.

The previous open-style NICU will give way to a more intimate environment through a combination of renovation to existing space and new expansion onto an adjacent roof. The construction of approximately 1,300 square feet will create two connected multiple-birth rooms and six private rooms with open doorway access, improving privacy and noise reduction.
